Israeli Army Targets Hamas Senior Leader's Home in Gaza

The Israeli Army said on Sunday it targeted Hamas' top leader's home in Gaza after nearly a week of major air and missile attacks in Israel by territory dominated by the Islamic militant group. General Hidai Zilberman, an army spokesman, told Israel's army radio on Sunday that [...]

General Hidai Zilberman, an army spokesman, told Israel's military radio on Sunday that the army targeted the home of Yehiyeh Sinwar, Hamas' top leader within the territory, who is likely to hide along with the rest of the group.

His house is in Khan Yunis, south of Gaza Strip. The army said it also aimed at the home of his brother Sinaner. It was not clear whether the two had a family settlement.

Hamas and other militant groups have launched about 2,000 rockets in Israel since last Monday, when tensions rose over the holy place in Jerusalem and the threatened expulsion of dozens of Palestinian families from a nearby neighbourhood.
Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes throughout the impoverished and blocked territory and destroyed a number of multistory buildings, including one hosting the Associated Press Gaza office.

This round of fighting is the worst since the 2014 war in Gaza, where at least 145 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, including 41 children and 23 women. Eight Israelis have been killed, including a 5-year-old boy and a soldier.

Early Sunday, Israeli fighter planes hit several buildings and roads in a vital part of the city of Gaza. Photos circulated by residents and journalists showed that the air strikes created a crater that blocked one of the main roads leading to the Schiffa Hospital, the largest medical centre in the Gaza Strip.

The Health Ministry said recent air strikes left at least two people dead and 25 injured, including children and women. There has been no immediate comment from the Israelite army.

On Saturday, Israel bombed the house of Khalil al-Hayeh, an old figure in the Hamas political branch, saying the building served as part of the group's <x0 terrorist infrastructure “”. There was no immediate report on the fate of al-Hayeh or any victim.
