Ayurveda describes sleep as a fundamental instinct of life, essential to all living things. We need it to renew and regenerate our bodies, our minds, our souls. In Ayurveda, sleep is one of three pillars of good health known as nidra. Except sleep, we have food (ahara) and sex. The right balance of these three elements is required for a healthy life.
According to Ayurveda, it is better to wake up before sunrise and sleep before 10:00. As you may have read, Ayurveda focuses on healing the whole body and is based on the idea that a person's will, a kind of bodily humor, determines his personality and health.
Ayurveda is based on the idea that the world consists of five elements of aakash, jala (water), wrescrem (earth), cassa (fire), and vayu (air). A combination of each element results in three moods, or dos, known as watas, capes and pies. These would be believed to be responsible for a person's psychological, mental, and emotional health.
