The Most Common Reasons for Divorces

More than a quarter of marriages ended in divorce in 2019 (26.1 divorces for 100 marriages from the previous 21 year), marking a record and significant growth rate in the 1990s, when this indicator was only 9.2 divorces.

Although growing in relation to previous years, divorces still remain low in relation to developed Western European countries. According to INSTAT and Eurostat, our country ranks among the 10 countries that have the lowest divorce rate, in relation to marriages.

But, in the region, Serbia and Albania hold the record for family divisions, with 30 and 26 divorces for 100 Tuesdays respectively. In Europe's developed countries, at least one third of marriages end in divorce. The record holds Luxembourg with 89 divorce marriages, followed by Portugal (61.4). Finland, although the happiest country in the world, is third in Europe for the high number of family divisions (60).

In Italy, nearly half of marriages end in divorce (46.4), and Greece 38. Luksenburg also leads the world for high divorce rates. Along with the high European states is this indicator in the United States. While countries where divorces are the lowest in the world are India, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Egypt, Brazil, and so on.
