A doctor in Vietnam related how he found dozens of seemingly fine mushrooms growing within the ears of a patient who had complained of scratching and pain of ears. The possible reason? The unnamed patient had shared vests for hygiene” with others.
The doctor, identified as Dr. Cuong from Hanoi, recorded images of the phenomenon in question through an endoscope. He said that he removed the mushrooms and that the patient will recover in a few days.
According to Healthline, the condition called otomicosis can be caused by swimming in tropical areas.
It is more common among people with diabetes or some other condition. However, as the patient discovered in Vietnam, bacteria and fungi can spread by sharing things that enter your ears.
