New York has legalized the marijuana to adults and under the new law, all files of people convicted previously on such charges will be reviewed again.
The new legislation was signed on Wednesday, officially making New York the 15th state to allow for use of the Mariarian for adults, starting at the age of 21.
So, starting on March 31st, people are free to own up to 85 grams of cannabis for self-use and not alone.
When will free sales start?
This could take a year or more. The change will not be immediate as all legal procedures related to such activity must first be prepared: from state-set mechanisms, specific regulations for production to licensing those who will sell it.
Citizens will be allowed to drink in the same public areas where tobacco is allowed. In the coming months, people will be able to come into the commanded cannabis home and not only that, but they can plant it at home to six crops.
According to the local governor, Andrew Cuomo, this event marks a historic day for New York, as it will only now end severe prison sentences by creating a lucrative industry that will positively affect the country's economy.
It is expected that, after this law, at least 60,000 new jobs will be created, and the state will be able to generate $350m of annual taxes.
