If you have a custom of paying attention to details, then you have the opportunity to improve all aspects of your life from work to private, relationships of love and family. Psychologist Hanan Parvez explained why it is a highly esteemed skill among today's employers, why it is a 21st century skill, as some call it.
Let's talk first about human attention. Our ancestors would have received little if they had paid attention to every small detail in their environment. Their problems were simple: they avoided predators, found partners, cared for family protection... so our concentration system focused on some important evolutionary incentives”, Parvez explains.
In recent decades, technology has advanced rapidly. The situation we are in is unprecedented. Our brain of the Stone Age is trying to continue with the rapid exchange of information and its availability. Our attention to “is” in different directions every day, just like a doll pulls the wire and so controls a doll. A lot of people are slowly discovering that their attention has been distributed everywhere”, he adds.
The next time you feel your attention spreading, stop and think about what's attracting your attention. These will most often be important evolutionary themes such as violence, sex, food, gossip...”, Parvez noted, adding that the goal is not to avoid such themes, but to be conscious and thoughtful of their treatment.
“is not something that naturally comes to us”
He says that people in the 21st century on the one hand, “caped” easily from important evolutionary themes, and on the other, the problems facing work are becoming more complex, especially in view of the availability of massive data.
To solve many complex problems of modern life, we need to focus and pay attention to details. But it's not something that comes naturally. This is not what we're programmed for. Ironically, psychological mechanisms designed to help us solve problems in ancient times are now finding ways to solve the problems of the modern age”, says psychologist Parvez.
