The poor quality of sleep can lead to a life of sexual inactivity for many women, a new study reveals.
Women who had less quality sleep were almost twice as likely to report such problems as a lack of sexual interest or pleasure than others, according to the study published in Menopause: The Journal of the North American Menopause Society.
The study also found that the good quality of sleep was related to having more sexual activity, a result that “does not surprise anyone, did it? Stephanie Faubion, who runs the Maino Clinic Centre for Women's Health. If you put sleep or sex before a tired woman, she will choose sleep every time,” said Faubion.
But women are not the only ones who experience sexual dysfunction because of poor sleep. Touch men too. A 2009 study revealed that an obstructive sleep appnea a potentially serious disorder, in which breathing constantly pauses and begins, was linked to correct dysfunction and sexual difficulties in men. Bad sleep also leads to a higher risk of failure to function erection.
There are many other factors that link sleep to sex. The orgasms are not just relaxing, but they release certain hormones that help to increase the quality of sleep for women and men after sex.
In women, for example, estrogen levels increase after orgasm, and this can improve REM sleep cycles and promote better sleep at night. In men, orgasm increases the production of a hormone called the propactin that stimulates the sleep of deep waves” ) the kind that the body needs to relax.
