Today, International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide. Not only will women's achievements be celebrated but they will also highlight the obstacles facing the day. If you want to get involved or understand the meaning, here's all you need to know:
When did it begin?
Although recognized by the United Nations in 1977, women's day began at the beginning of the 20th century when job protests began in North America and Europe. During the First World League, members of the women's movement in Russia celebrated their first day of the woman on March 8, 1913, to protest the war. A year later, on the same date, women across Europe gathered at gatherings for solidarity.
After World War II, almost all nations began to use March 8 as women's rights day. More than a century later, endless events and marches are held on March 8 to celebrate women's achievements and to fight for equality.
What happens today?
For this year, the topic of International Women's Day is #ChooseToChaleng (choley of challenged) that urges women to get involved in challenges because they are the change.
