The price was nearly four times higher than in estimates, and beat the past record of Churchill painting, which was sold for 1.8 million.
The Coutoubia Mosque Tower, painted in Marrakesh during World War II, was sold to an anonymous buyer, writes BBC, translates Periscope.
Churchill was a great fan of the artist, who was inspired by the Maroken city and painted the Koutoubia Mosque with oil during the Casablanca conference in 1943.
He gave this painting to American leader Franklin Roosevelt.
This painting then found itself in the hands of famous actress and director Angelina Jolie when it was sold in 2011. /Periscope
