Numerous scientists, family and sexual health organizations, have studied factors that contribute to a marital breakdown or breakup. Washington University psychologist John Gottman has studied for years the reasons and factors that make a relationship work or not work. According to Gottman, the success of the relationship is at the base and its pillars, as well as the mechanisms that are put into place when there are disputes.
The noted psychologist also said that quickly separated couples are trapped in a destructive spiral that does not allow them to overcome problems or accept reality.
He has also identified what are called “4 pilots who predict the” division:
1. Attitude in Protection
2. Inference
3. Destructive Criticism
4. Submission
Gottman, however, has said another rule, called exactly 5:1 and which according to him, is implemented by couples who stay together long. These numbers are rendered in: Every negative comment, say five positive comments. This can also be applied during fights or, better behind, to a bad comment, to make five good comments. What do you think the professor is right?
