Italian police found a 500-year-old copy of Salvatore Mundi, a painting of Jesus Christ by Leonardo da Vinci, in an apartment in Naples and later turned him into a museum where no one knew he was missing.
Officials said late Monday they had arrested the 36-year-old owner of the apartment under suspicion of receiving stolen goods. The painting was discovered in his bedroom closet.

The oil painting is believed to be by artist Giacomo Alibradi and dates back to the early 1500s. Like the original, it describes Jesus Christ with one hand lifted up and the other with a crystal cell. The painting is part of the Doma Museum collection at the San Domenico Maggior church in Naples.
The museum was closed to the pandemic and nobody knew it was lost. Police are now investigating how it was stolen because there was no suspicious sign.

The painting carried out by Alibrand is a copy of the painting that in 2017 became the most expensive sold painting in history, worth $450.3 million. By the time King Louis XII of France ordered it, Leonardo da Vinci's work cost $60. Salvatore Mund is called the Holy Gem “” of the old masters, and it's probably so appreciated.
Salvatore Mundi has not been seen in public since buying the record from the Arab prince, Bader bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan al-Saud. Some experts doubt the truthfulness of the painting.
