Despite the growing spread of vaccines against Avid-19 in various countries, the World Health Organization warns that the flock's immunity will not be achieved this year.
The herd's immunity is a form of protection indirectly from infectious disease that occurs when a sufficient percentage of a population is immune to an infection, either through vaccine or previous infections, thus reducing the likelihood of infection for individuals with no immunity. The percentage of the immune population changes depending on the infection.
WHO's leading scientist, Soumya Swanminthan, warned that it will take time to produce and manage sufficient vaccines to prevent the spread of the virus.
“In Geneva, stressing the need to continue measures such as physical distance, hand washing and wearing masks to curb pandemics.
It assessed the incredible “progress made by scientists who managed to create not one, but some safe and effective vaccines against a new virus within a year. But, Swanminethan stressed, the extension “requires time”.
“Takes time to scale the production of doses, not only in millions, but here we are talking in billions,” it noted, urging people to be a little bit patient”.
It will be necessary to continue taking measures for public health aimed at halting transmission for “at least the rest of this year”.
