Biden administration supports Kosovo-Serbia dialogue facilitated by EU

The United States fully supports dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, facilitated by the European Union aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement, the US State Department for Radio Free Europe said in a statement.
In terms of resolving the issue between Kosovo and Serbia, the State Department recalls an earlier statement by US President Joe Biden.
“Sic has said President Beden: Essential to the forward movement of Kosovo and Serbia is a comprehensive solution that will lead to mutual recognition; preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both states, as well as empower their democratic institutions. It would boost the security and prosperity of both countries, advance their aspirations for EU membership and other multilateral institutions, and support the sustainable goal of a whole, free and at peace”.
The State Department also recalls US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's statement before the Senate Foreign Relations Commission on January 19th, prior to the inauguration of President Biden, in which he had said that “the administration of President Trump” for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
“The selected president ( Joe Biden, as you know, has spent a lot of time in those places in the past, and I think he shares conviction that there are things we can do to help Kosovo move forward, as well as Serbia”, Blinken had said.
On September 4th 2020, Kosovo and Serbia have signed the White House in Washington -- two documents for normalising economic reports -- in the presence of former US President Donald Trump. They were mediated by then Trump's envoy for dialogue, Richard Green.
Following presidential elections in the United States, Pristina and Belgrade have pledged that they will continue implementing the agreements, despite the change of American administration.
Political dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, with the European Union's mediation, has started in 2011.
The last meeting between the state leaders of these countries was held in September last year. Since then, no summit has been held.
Until the election of the new Kosovo government, official Brussels has warned there will be no meetings within the dialogue.
Early parliamentary elections in Kosovo will be held on February 14th.
