The transfer of Varazdat Haroyan defender to Larisa, the Greek elite club, has been cancelled. Following the failure of this operation, there are motives that combine with Armenia's history, policy and difficult diplomatic situation. The captain of the Armenian National has not been transferred to Greece because it has been mobilised because of the worsening armed conflict between his country and Azerbaijan. The confirmation came from his agent “like all Armenian citizens under 40, and he's already in the war zone”, Alexis Kouiyas said.
Nagorni-Karabakh is a territory that declared independence in 1991, located in Azerbaijan but is controlled by Armenia, even though it is officially declared independent. Conflicts have never been halted in this area, and in 2012 and 2016 there have been clashes between armies. In recent days the situation has changed: Turkey's intervention and the death of 84 people are a clear signal that fighting has become serious and violent. The New York Times has explained that in recent months the situation was steadily deteriorating.
After playing in Armenia and Iran, the 28-year-old defense had subsequently resolved the contract with the Ural Yekaterinburg Russian First Division Club was on its way to Greece, but war stopped. In these days, Henryk Mkhitaran has also supported Armenia on Twitter, saying: “We have the inevitable right to live in our homeland without a existential threat. Our children have the right to live peacefully rather than be refugees. I am always at the side of my nation”.
