Police still without health insurance, Veliu says they are working to make them within this mandate

On Tuesday evening, several Prizren police officers were forced to fire weapons to Besnik Shala, known as “Qorri”, leaving him dead. To this he came after the deceased had resisted police arrest and had then fired guns at them. [...]
But this is not the only case when police officials are in danger. Even during the pandemic, many were physically attacked during the official duty of irresponsible persons.
Even so, 20 years after the police's establishment, police officials still continue to work without health and vital security, even as the Kosovo Police Union has repeatedly raised its voice for this.
The chairman of this union, Valbona Kamberi, told the newspaper Target that health insurance and accident has been and is a priority for the union that leads him.
But according to her, this has not been regulated by any postwar government, contrary to promises.
“In recent meetings with the Parliamentary Commission for Security and Protection, we have received support but without result so far. Also promised by MPB Minister Agim Veliu and Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti that we will soon have health insurance, but also by any government that has been in power, we are the only police in the region and in the world without accidental and health insurance, even though it is a significant number of health problems at KK. Even from the age in the absence of the retirement law they still work up to the previous age for regular retirement”, Kamberi said.
And the head of the Commission for Security and Protection, Fatmire Kolcak, said that they talked to the police union on their last meeting, but their priority has been several other requests.
The “has submitted urgent demands that have been the emergency package, payment of package, shots and extra hours. They themselves have claimed to agree at the moment that these will be reviewed, but not at this stage. Any reasonable request must be taken even to consider, it is clear that they must have health insurance, but that all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo should also have it. In principle, we must support any reasonable demand for more than that we continue to be all without insurance”, Kolcak stressed.
And to do police with health insurance as soon as possible, Interior Minister Agim Veliu told the objective that they are working intensively.
We're in the process of reviewing the Law on Early Pension and the Health Insurance Law. We believe we have to launch, then as far as we can see, we hope within this mandate”, Veliu told the newspaper Objectiv.
In contrast, from 2000 to now, 21 members of the police have fallen into office.
