The situation with the pandemic COVID-19 has not affected foreign investors. Even compared with the first six months of last year, foreign investment has increased for millions of euros. At the Central Bank of Kosovo, they have shown the value of investments this year and the sectors where more is invested. BQCH spokesman, [...]
BQCU spokesman Kuqim Ahmeti has told Gazeta Express that compared to the first quarter of last year, investments have grown for 54m euros.
Even this year, mostly investments have come from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
“You announced that the value of direct investment (ID) in the first six months of this year (janar June 2020) amounted to 164.6m euros. This amount of investments is for 54m euros more than in the same period in 2019, where the value of IDs was 110.8m euros. Most of the investments have come from German-speaking states (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), followed by Albania, Hungary, the US, Slovenia, and”, Ahmeti has declared.
And the sectors where they have invested most are that of real estate, financial and energy services.
“As far as the sectors where more are invested are done in the sector of real estate, financial services and energy. During the first six months of 2019, the IDs have been 110.8m euros, while during the 12 months of 2019 the IDs were 271.8m euros”, Ahmeti's answers to the Gazette Express reported.
But for the Chairman of the Economic Ode of Kosovo, Berat Rukicin, this is not a large number of investments.
“is not a large number. So it's not a figure that makes the difference because it's not that big investments have been made. Investments are mainly in real estate and renewable energy”, Rukiqi told Express.
Otherwise, based on Kosovo Central Bank statistics, the country is no longer attracting foreign investors as it once did.
Since in 2007, the value of foreign investments amounted to 440m euros, it now barely exceeds 200 million.
According to economic connoisseurs, the reason for the decline in investments is the political situation in the country and frequent election cycles in recent years. /
