In the second edition of her postcast, which was broadcast on Wednesday (August 5th), the first former lady, Michelle Obama, reflected on the changes her family and other families had to face, as a result of the pandemic.
“I know I'm facing some kind of low degree depression”, she said. “not only because of quarantine, but because of racist disputes and simply looking at this administration, seeing its hypocrisy day after day, is disturbing. ” (referring Donald Trump administration)
Obama says he felt the impact and sleep. She says she wakes up in the middle of the night, because “worries about something, or she has a load. ”
I've been through those drops and emotional ups and ups that I think everybody feels, where they just don't feel like themselves and sometimes... there's been a week or so, where I had to give up on these emotions and not be so hard on myself”, she said.
Obama said the protests “Black Livings Matter” and the continuing riots that have “fixed the country” have also affected its mood.
I have to say, to wake up with news about how the administration reacted or not, with news of how a black man is getting dehumanized, getting hurt and killed and being falsely accused of something, it's exhausting. It made me feel a weight I haven't felt in my life for a long time, said she.
In a conversation with former NPR President Michele Norris, the first lady said that during her family time at the White House, which she went to as “outside the standard of a regular life”, it was important to maintain schedules and it's something she's used even during the pandemic, especially during the closing.
“Barack is in his office, making calls, working with his book. I'm in my room, the girls are in their computers, but around five, we all come together and do a puzzle activity. We just sit down and try to solve a big puzzle with thousands of chips. ”
After dinner, they play the card game “pades”, which former President Barack Obama has taught his two daughters.
She said that pandemic is also an opportunity to set up “as you want to appear in the new world, because it will be a new world.”
Its greatest hope is for people to regain normality and “to reach the best. ”
