“Whoever deliberately risks others must expect that this will have serious consequences for the”, Altmaier said in an interview.
“We should not risk the patient recovery process, which has just begun, acknowledging a further increase of” infections, he stressed.
The number of infections reported daily has been on the rise, a trend that Lothar Wieler, who is Germany's highest official for disease control, described as “very disturbing”.
Wieller attributed this to lack of hygiene and disrespect for physical distance.
Yesterday, the government's management agency reported 955 infections in 24 hours.
