United States President Donald Trump plans to expand the controversial presence of federal law bodies on the streets of American cities to curb what he describes as unacceptable violence. Mr. Trump, in comments to reporters Monday at the White House, said federal forces on the streets of Portland, Oregon, have done a fantastic “job over the past three days.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler disagrees and told reporters this week that the actions of federal law officials are “an outright abuse of police tactics by the federal government”, which Mr. Wheeler considers unconstitutional. The Prosecutor General of Oregon is asking a federal judge to issue an order to prevent further arrests by federal agents.

Municipal and state officials say paramilitary personnel, apparently with members from several federal agencies in the order, but with no identification signs, are exasperating tensions with protesters. Other locations are planned in other cities. The US Department of National Security plans to locate about 150 federal agents in Chicago this week, according to the newspaper “Chicago Tribune”.

At least 71 people were hit with firearms, 12 of whom lost their lives from Friday afternoon to Monday morning in Chicago, according to the newspaper. On Monday, Mr. Trump cited the possibility of sending forces to New York City, where he said Democrat Party politicians “have no idea what they're doing”. The president also hinted that the situation is unacceptable in Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore and Oakland.

Protest or Trouble?
The president argues that added rule forces are needed because, as he puts it, local officials are <x0 ..physically afraid of” from protesters, which Mr Trump characterises as “anarchists”. “They hate our country and we will not allow it to continue like this”, he said.

Many protesters have continued to demonstrate against what they consider to be systematic racism and treatment of Africans by police. In Portland and other cities of the United States, peaceful protests have continued every day, just like vandalism, struggle with the police, and a total robbery. The president has said that violence in protests, and the killings that have nothing to do with demonstrations are “worse than in Afghanistan. Videos from Portland posted in social media show some people who say they were not participating in protests that were getting into cars without police signs from federal personnel with no identification marks.

The acting deputy secretary of the Department for National Security admitted Friday in an interview with National Public Radio that federal agents had used unidentified vehicles in Portland, but said that the security of the officers was the reason and to take the detainees to a safe “place to question”. Democrat lawmakers have strongly opposed these actions. The heads of the Justice, Armed Services and National Security Commissions of the House of Representatives have sent a letter to the General Inspectors of the Department of Justice and National Security, demanding an investigation into “the use of violent tactics against peaceful protesters in Washington, DC, Portland, Oregon and other towns”.

The American Civil Freedoms Union says it is storing a legal complaint against the Department of Homeland Security and the Marshall Service to stop what it calls “unconstitutional attacks against protesters, journalists and legal observers”.
Federal agencies say their actions are legal and they have broad authority to carry them out. President Trump has signed an executive order that instructs federal agencies to send personnel to protect federal properties, momuments and statues, promoting the Department of National Security to create “equipes of fast intervention”. The anti-police demonstrations have spread across the country since the African, George Floyd, died at police hands in Minneapolis in May. Much of the marches have been peaceful, but some have been accompanied by violence.
