British Academy: Stop dialogue with Serbia and the EU if indictment against Thaci and Wessel is confirmed

The Great Britain Academy, Professor of Oxford University, and Book Author for The KLA, James Pettifer, has reacted to publishing the initiative of the indictment against Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, as well as PDK chairman Kadri Weselin.

In an interview for KosovoPress, Pettifer has said the establishment of the Special Court is unfair and without future grounds for Kosovo, when it is known there are so many serious crimes, people's disappearances and other issues that have not been resolved on the part of Serbia.

My view has always been that, in essence, this was a kangaroo law. Even its administrative performance in the past five years has been very weak. I mean, as I thought earlier, that it was designed to delegate Kosovo's independence. There are very strong reasons for Albanians to reject co-operation with this tribunal”, he has stressed.

According to British professor, if people in high positions committed crimes, they could be arrested and tried by normal legal mechanisms like any other country.

He has stressed that there is a tendency to rewrite history.

“There is an organised movement in Serbia's government positions to equate Milosevic's period, somewhat as a successor to Yugoslavia's best aspects in the past. It's just a fake story”, he added.

Pettifer has said that Kosovo should distance itself far from major powers' foreign policies when they, or at least some of them, want to destroy the post-1999 settlement and independence of 2008.

Pettifer has stressed that the initiated of the indictment against President Thaci and Kadri Veselini is an attack on all Kosovo, dialogue and all contacts with Serbia, the EU, should be halted.
