When estrogen levels are high, a woman's body responds to drinking by releasing the dopamine hormone that causes a sense of reward in the brain.
According to scientists, this causes women to experience worse alcohol and to suffer from such consequences as cancer, liver damage, and heart disease.
A woman drinks from alcohol after consuming more than four drinks in two hours, while a man gets drunk if he consumes five drinks in two hours.
The study, published in Neuroscience magazine, revealed that female mice become more drunk than males.
Psychiatry at the University of Illinois, Amy Lasek, who conducted the study, said that the results reveal that estrogen makes women more at risk to necklace substances such as alcohol.
“Graths from troubled drinking of alcohol develop into an alcohol - use disorder and may suffer from diseases such as cancer, liver damage, heart problems, and brain damage,” She told Neuroscience magazine.
“If alcohol consumption is higher during when estrogen levels have been raised, this can contribute both to health risks and to acooli dependency”.
Hormone is also present in men but at lower levels that do not waver.
