World leaders have raised $8 billion for the development and location of diagnostics, treatments, and vaccines against the new coronavirus. European Commission President Ursula von der Leenen said: “Today, the world demonstrated remarkable unity for the common good. Governments and global health organizations joined forces against the coronary. With such commitment, we are on the right track for developing, producing and placing a vaccine for all. Anyway, this is just the beginning. We need to support the effort and be willing to contribute more. The promise marathon will continue “.
Consider what some leaders promise:
Norway pledged $1 billion in contributions, Switzerland pledged $301m and the Netherlands $209.5m.
Australia pledged $325m, which is about $226m.
Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Ctete pledged $152.7m, while South Korea announced a $50m contribution and Kuwait promised to donate $40m.
South Africa said it would pledge $1.3m and raise another $61m from African Union member states. Israel promised to invest $60m in trying to respond to pandemic.
Ireland is granting nearly $20 million. Luxembourg pledged $5.45m, Sweden $1.7m, Portugal $10.9m, Croatia $1.09m, Finland 39.3m. Bulgaria and Romania pledged $19,000 and $21,000, respectively.
Serbia announced a $2.18m contribution, Slovenia $3.6m, and the Czech Republic announced a joint pledge with Poland, Hungary and Slovakia of $3.27m.
Meanwhile, Melinda Gates, co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation, promised $100m in the effort.
Other countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Turkey, Monaco and China, also pledged to contribute to efforts against Coved-19 without mentioning a sum.
