Women are evidently more affected than men, according to the country's biggest survey on the issue. The study found that 81 %s have been shocked and unable to cope last year, compared to 67 % men.
More than 1/3 have felt stress suicide, compared to 29 % men, and 18 %s of women have hurt themselves as a result. The biggest issue of women's stress was personal financing, with 43 %s, while for men it was work pressures (41 %).
But the focus of society on women's appearance may be an important factor, with more than 1/3 of those who said they were deeply affected, blaming concerns about their appearance and body image. The Mental Health Foundation, which observed more than 4600 people, also found that people between the ages of 18 and 24 are more affected than their parents.
