Political crisis is unable to realise package for economic recovery

The political crisis will prevent the country from having a rapid economic recovery after the pandemic, and no package for businesses will be realised due to lack of decision-making. So says the chairman of the Kosovo Economic Ode, Berat Rukiqi, who adds that some businesses because of the pandemic have lost up to 10m euros a day.

Mayor Rukiqi calls for political party leaders instead of seeing economic and private sector recovery as guarantees for the functioning of the state.

The “is also a stable political situation with many problems in decision-making. We believe that no package can now work if there is even a co-operation of parliament with the government because change of laws, laws for international debt deals as it might be with the World Bank or with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development or the German bank. However, any movement that means borrowing means or sharing tools from these international financial institutions also means passing various agreements into the government but also in parliament. This binomial is not functioning because of the political blockade, the dismissal of the Government and non-recognition of this government by parliament. We hope that there will be a reason for all political leaders, to see this recovery of the economy and the private sector, even as significant guarantees of the state's functioning. If we fail in an economic way, no government will be easy, nor pleasant”, Rukiqi says.

It for Kosova Prees has stated that 40 per cent of Kosovo companies have not worked at the time of pandemic, which has suffered in revenues. The economic crisis for Kosovo, he says the World Bank and the IMF have seen it before.

“Based on accounts that the World Bank has already made, the International Monetary Fund for the economic downturn, and based on what the Central Bank has estimated, and on our research that we've had with businesses, it turns out that some 9-10 million euros are a daily loss of economics for this time, as long as it's completely been the transitional part of the economy, or for the time when much of our sectors have only worked a fraction of capacity, in this case not more than 50 per cent, while construction is closed no more than 20 per cent. So we have a lot of companies that almost didn't work. Even our research, even from the data we have from electricity consumption, gives us a clue that 40 percent of the companies in Kosovo haven't worked at all at this time as restrictive measures for preventing pandemic”, he claims.

While, for the state's support, according to Rukiqi still does not have enough support for local companies following the situation created by the coronary.

He says OEK requires that tools from the Fiscal Emergency Pack as soon as they are distributed and urgently take action for economic recovery.

Not only to producers, but to no category has state aid arrived enough because most of it has been emergency and social, not directly focused on businesses. Normal, it is also a relief to share the work and rent. We think there's delays, tools should be in business, economy, workers. Second, even in the compensation part, there has been room for a value that affects the minimizing of damage. Generally, the destructive part of businesses is not satisfied with the measures because they are in a very difficult situation”, Rukiqi said.

The head of OEK has said all sectors are affected by the Pandemia Covid-19, which will have negative implications for economic growth for Kosovo as if for all states that have been affected by corruption.
