Through a joint text, published exclusively in KOHA Ditore, the foreign ministers of Germany and France have called for the immediate resumption of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, under the leadership of the European Union.
French Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and German Heiko Maas have said they are determined to resolve all remaining obstacles between Serbia and Kosovo.
They see the unresolved situation among countries as destabilizing factors for the entire Western Balkans and as European security issues. According to them, the unresolved situation hinders the countries' political progress. Both have called for the goal of dialogue to be to reach a legally binding agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.
“For this purpose EU member states appointed one of Europe's most skilled diplomats, Miroslav Lajcak, as special envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as other regional issues. France and Germany are willing to support him and his team with all its political, diplomatic and economic potential. In April 2019, Chancellor Merkel and President Macron invited the leaders of the region to a summit in Berlin. Now that Miroslav Lajcak has taken office, it is time for dialogue to resume. The goal should be to reach a stable, comprehensive, legally binding agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, which resolves all open issues and contributes to the stability of the region. President Macron has declared his willingness to hold a second summit in Paris. However, readiness for dialogue is a prerequisite for this”, they have said in the writing that is published exclusively today in KOHA Ditore.
