Number of families seeking food aid increases in Pristina

The mayor of this municipality, Shpend Ahmeti, in an interview for Kosova Prees, said the day is growing the number of families seeking assistance for basic food items.

Ahmeti says that if there is no increase in cases in Pristina, then the possibility will be opened for the capital to be removed from the quarantine zone, but only other rules to be applied.

For example, in normal conditions, I'm saying that before the virus, there were 1,000 and 600 families in social assistance. I'm not saying in recent days that they need social assistance, but in recent days the people who have called to get help with food packages, we're talking about packages of basic food, flour, oil, sugar, salt has been added somewhere for 500-600, and the day is growing. If these restrictive measures continue for a longer period of time it is inevitable that the number will increase”, he said.

Pristina's first says the situation with COVID-19 is under control and that there is no increase in the number of affected.

He says that if it continues further there is no increase in the number of cases, it could be proposed that Pristina be removed from quarantine.

I think we have the situation under control further. It means two days ago there were zero cases, there were two cases, and then yesterday were the family of the two cases that were six. So, pretty much we know where it is, what's going on and how the virus is developing and spreading. So, we expect these next two three days then I believe that in co-ordination with Minister Vitita and we will give our recommendations at least about quarantine, which is the entry and exit of Pristina. While the other measures remain in place and I'm saying that citizens are keeping it well, it's coming up at specific times according to the decision it was”, Ahmeti says.

As far as the cases are confirmed with COVIED-19 and are in the property, Ahmeti points out that they are standing by and providing for all the necessary things.

These people who are infected, we call them on the phone almost on a daily basis, a few of which we know are more isolated and we ask them if they need anything. So, we take care of it because we've had some cases with small children at home, we've had times when we've sent medicine and other things they need. If we don't call them and they need something, then we refer to them and ask them to contact these numbers that are 038245666 or send emails to them. [email protected] And we'll definitely take care of it. We already have the focus for the next three days on sending food packages to more than 2 thousand families. Last week in the Municipal Assembly we voted the means, but there are already procedures that I believe to be completed today and we will be ready to start in a faster way out of food package”, says Mayor Ahmeti.

So far in our country there are 598 cases of COVID-19, where 15 people have died and 123 persons have recovered.
