Should we give up contraceptives during quarantine?

The responsibility of contraception usually tends to fall on a woman's shoulders; while condoms are always available to prevent pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Usually, these pills are based on hormones, and some women think they want to give their body a break from synthetic hormones from time to time.

Perhaps, for this reason they are thinking the same thing even now that they are at home because of isolation from the world pandemic of the Coronavirus and they judge this period as the ideal for “frenzied” themselves to such contraception methods. If you're taking your combined pill for just contraception reasons (so to not control your period or help your skin) and you're not currently housebound with a partner, chances are that you won't have sex during quarantine.

Unlike implants or anchors, women who take the combined pill are able to make the decision to stop it much easier. But is this decision certain if you plan to return to it in the coming months? We asked Dr. Anne Lashford, a general doctor and vice president of the Faculty of Sex and Reproductive Health (FSRH) for her opinion and advice as an expert.

Dr. Lashford said that if you don't have a pill problem, you have no reason to give it up. Your body needs no rest from the pills, the doctor insists.

There's no reason to drop pills”, Dr. Lashford- Cosmopolitan. You may not understand it, but you can reap benefits from pills you did not even consider. I talk to many women who have been taking pill for years and had forgotten to take it for a while, and they showed greater problems with bloodshed and pain”, notes Dr. Lashford.

The doctor adds that the pill is also known for the effect of improving spirituality on some people and stabilising their paws.

Banning and restarting can increase the risk of blood clotting

There is another reason that it doesn't make much sense to give up pills at this time of pandemic, and that's the increased risk of blood clotting. We give the pill only to women we perceive are in low risk of blood clotting”, says Dr. Lashford Cosmopolitan, mentioning that being overweight, smokers, or older may increase your risk somewhat.

You can expose yourself to an accidental pregnancy

Then there is an increased risk of pregnancy coming from putting a pause on pills. We see a large number of unplanned pregnancies in people who have decided to have a gap from pills for no reason at all”, says Dr. Lashford. If you were to come out of the pills, you'd have to be sure you'd resume it exactly in time to make sure you don't get pregnant by accident.
