Inflammation plays a major role in the development of diabetes.
The study included 188 013 individuals with 17.5% of the sample suffering from periodontitis, which, if not treated, can lead to tooth loss.
After 10 years of monitoring, 16% of the champion's persons developed diabetes (545 individuals).
It was also found that brushing your teeth three or more times a day reduces the risk of diabetes by 8%.
In particular, it has been found that for young individuals (under 50) who brush teeth two or three times a day, the risk of diabetes is lower by 10-14%.
The protective effect of oral hygiene was even stronger on the female gender.
