I remember being afraid of public speaking. My legs were shaking when I went to the public. My mouth was taken away as I began to say the first words. Avoid eye contact at all costs if I did not find someone with smiling faces.
Have you experienced these things? Isn't that exactly the best experience to have? Fortunately, there is a way to overcome fear of public speaking.
Understanding the Cause of Fear
The first step to rid yourself of your fear of public speech is to first discover why that fear exists. The main reason is fear of shame. Fear the others will laugh at you and you will do something that will result in the trial by the audience. Do you worry when you're in a room with yourself? Of course not. Only when there are other people - people who can judge or think badly of you - does it usually cause you to become nervous.
Knowing why you are afraid to stand before an audience will help you to understand what to do to overcome your fears. Once fear is uncovered, it can be overcome. It may also be that you have had a bad experience in the past that causes feelings of fear. In any case, for most people, this is because of fear of what others might think of you.
Change Your Thinking
To overcome this fear, you must be able to change your position. When you stop thinking about yourself and what the audience will think of you, but think about how you can best convey your message, you can conquer that fear.
Practice
When you practice, it's better to do it in front of a group of supporters. This will not only make talking easier in public, but also help you gain confidence in yourself.
Instead of thinking, “What if I screw up everything?” Think, “These are two completely different questions. One question will put you into the mentality of fear, while the other will put you in the mentality of power.
Thus, overcoming fear of public speech is accomplished by having proper thought and practice. The more you practice, the easier it becomes.
