Women had power in KEDS and KESCO. But, the rights and empowerment of women working there will be even more aconfirmed as the directors general of both companies have signed the principles for women's empowerment. “Today I proudly want to announce to you that KEDS and KESCO are the first companies in Kosovo [...]

“Today, I proudly want to announce to you that KEDS and KESCO are the first companies in Kosovo to have signed the pledge on the 7 UN Women Principles, which are guidelines that help companies empower women in the workplace and community”, said Mr. Alper Erbas, Director General of KED.

KEDS and KESCO have also taken the first concrete steps in this direction by opening special rooms for mothers and babies within the company, placing the reporting boxes in each district, as well as with clear plans to create the special Office for gender equality, as well as the legal body for workers for gender equality.

But the companies won't stop there.

“in KESCO, 50 per cent of leadership positions hold women while in KEDS we are working in this direction to have the same level of leadership as at KESCO. Empowering women, empowering future”, Mr. added. Erbas, Director General of KED.

This information he gave to KEDS and KESCO employees in the event, organised in honour of March 8th.

Kosovo's most voted woman, Chief Prime Minister Vjosa Osmani, has supported the initiative.

Allow me to say that active participation of women in public life, empowerment is a right and necessity. We have it in the Constitutions and laws, as it was. They may not remain a piece of paper, but they must be necessary. As long as women are not part of the labour market, Kosovo fails economically. ”, chief officer Osmani said.

She has been promoting women to work honestly for a better Kosovo, to say tomorrow that we didn't hide, we didn't get scared, but we offered all the work and capacity, commitment and raised our voices, we confronted the men and offered co-operation with those who wanted it.

If we work together the best days are ahead of us. I believe you're inspired by many names of ladies who are here. Investment in equality means investment in the future. The woman's Emmasis has a direct bearing on a much more developed country. When women have opportunity, they shine and you all know it. As chief officer I will work hard at empowering my wife”, said chief officer Osmani.

Meanwhile, Kosovo women have encouraged them to move their way towards their equality and empowerment, even Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, former president of Kosovo.

The woman is the pillar of society, maintains the community and feeds them. Our wives cared for families in the most difficult of times. The woman is then the hero of every family”, said former President Jahjaga.

We've achieved progress, we have many women in leadership positions, we have a more active voice. The wheel of change has begun to roll. Saturday before the gender equality legislature, work for equality in the labour market and remove barriers. We need more women in education, employment and leadership positions”, former President Jahjaga ordered.

Vlora Nushi, leader of UN Woman in Kosovo, praised the step KED and KESCO have taken by signing these principles.

X-rays on the job market are good and beneficial for all. You can make the difference. Business means equality, KEDS and KESCO with the implementation of the constipations will achieve equality”, said Mrs. Nice.

Director of Human Resources in KED, Mrs. Valbona Kadrijaj has unveiled the achievements of KEDS and KESCO in achieving gender equality and steps companies have taken.

“Today, 100 percent of KESCO departments are led by women. So women in KEDS and KESCO are not numbers, but big contributors to company empowerment. We have worked hard in all spheres to strengthen gender equality and we will continue to do this”, said Mrs. Cadriej.

Signing W Principles The KEDS's EPS is an indicator that the company is pledged to strongly influence the establishment of equal positions of women in Kosovo society. The company is the first to sign these principles, leading the way for other Kosovo companies to do so.
