NHS recommends adults consume too much cow milk because it is rich in protein and calcium, while current US dietary guidelines recommend three cups of milk a day, writes the Daily Mail, broadcasts news.net.
But researchers at Loma Linda University in California say these recommendations should be met with reservations.
They looked at 53,000 women in an eight-year period and found that the consumption of a small amount of milk every day was linked to a stroke in breast cancer.
One third of a cup was linked to a 30 - percent adult danger, while for a full cup per day (240ml), the risk was 50 percent.
For those who drink two to three drinks a day, it increased between 70 percent and 80 percent.
While the study was observant and cannot prove any cause, scientists believe that a hormone present in cow milk may be guilty.
