Scientists believe that they may have discovered the reason why stress causes gray hair and the ways in which it can be contained without the dye.
Experiments in mice showed that stem cells that control skin and hair color were severely damaged in conditions of intense stress.
In the case of mice, their dark fur became white within weeks.
The authors of the study, published in Nature magazine, which comes from the Universities of São Paulo and Harvard, believe that this is related to cells responsible for producing melanoma and hair and skin color.
We now know for sure that stress is responsible for this specific change in you and the way it works,” said Prof Ya-Cieh Hsu of Harvard University.
American and Brazilian researchers insist that this route is worth further researching to develop a drug that prevents hair dehydration by age.
They could identify the protein that caused the change in fur in rats, and they could see that when it was surprised, hair color could be prevented.
Men and women can be gray since they pass through their 30s, but although this is largely the result of the natural process of aging and genes, stress plays an important role.
