Type The followed diet can change male sperm Within days, affecting sperm mobility and fighting (or deteriorating) male infertility.
Just enough for men to eat bad food for a few days to endanger sperm health: this came out from a new study on male infertility and diet conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Linköping in Sweden and published in the specialised magazine Plos Biology Basta. For example, eating foods especially rich in sugar for several days exacerbates the health of male sperm, damaging fertility.
Dangerous Sugar Pressure
The study of male infertility and the diet followed was inspired by similar research of mice - sugar - eating animals and immediately mated became fathers of overweight little ones. So the idea arose to test whether diet also has immediate effects on men's sperm. For the study, experts analyzed the sperm of a champion made up of 15 healthy men who do not smoke, with a normal index of body mass and age between 20 and 27.
Feeding and Effects
Participants were asked to pursue a healthy diet for a week, and for the next seven days, a sugar - rich food plan, equal to those taken by drinking three liters and a half drinks a day.
By conducting specific tests before, during and at the end of the experiment, scientists were able to assess the effects of diet on the quality of sperm. In fact, it turned out that at the end of the first week of the test, during which participants were asked to pursue a healthy diet, the result had improved, and sperm resulted in better quality than at the beginning of the experiment. On the other hand, the quality deteriorated at the end of seven days during which samples had consumed a high amount of sugar.
The study has shown that sperm mobility can change in a short period of time and seems to be closely related to diet; these changes can be related to the appearance of specific molecules within them. The discovery can be very helpful, for example, by affecting the success of the assistant fertilization.
