Blood pressure can lead to a heart attack, heart attack, or death. In fact, 274 people die every day from blood clotting, according to the National blood clotting Alliance.

What does a blood clot look like? How do you know if you have one?

A blood clot is a jealouslike collection of blood cells in veins or arteries that block the flow of blood. Without the right flow of blood, important parts of your body, such as your heart, brain, and legs, may not receive the oxygen they need. Blood precision can be as small as a rice grain or as long as a Polish kielbasa, says Dr. Lawrence “Rusty” Hoffmann, professor of radiation intervention at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California.

Blood clots

Millions of years ago, blood clots helped people from bleeding to death after being bitten by saber teeth, explained Hoffman. Nowadays, blood clotting may still be beneficial if we get hurt, but they can also be formed for other reasons that can be harmful.

Four types of blood clotting are:

- The surface tromboflbit

- Deep veins.

- Pulmonary emboli

- Artary trombosis

The surface symbol is the least serious type of blood clot. It is formed in a vein near the surface of the skin. While less serious, this type of clot should be controlled by a doctor because it sometimes leads to deep veins ' trumpets.

The trombone of deep veins, also called DVT, is when a clot forms deep inside a vein, usually in arms or legs.

What doctors most worry about is when a blood clot in one part of your body says your leg, moves and goes to your brain, heart or lungs, says Dr. Nicole Winberg.

In the lungs, a blood clot can cause what is called pulmonary emboli. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 10% to 30% of people with a pulmonary embole die within a month.

A blood clot in the artery is called arterial blood clots, or arterial embols. In the brain, this type of clotting can cause strokes. In your heart, it can lead to a heart attack.

Risk factors for a blood clot

There are several risk factors that could put someone in a higher risk of a blood clot, including:

- You're pregnant.

- You use birth control pills or hormonal therapy.

- You're overweight.

- Drink cigarettes.

- You have diabetes.

- You're over 60.

- You've been inactive for a long time. For example, when you have a seated lifestyle or are resting at home after an operation.

- You did orthopedic surgery.

- You're traveling a long time on a plane, a car or a train and you're not able to move too much.

- You have certain blood disorders, such as Victor V Leiden, that make you more prone to clotting.

- You have autoimmune antiphospholipide or lupus syndrome.

- You have cancer.

Doctors usually believe that two risk factors are often put together to increase the risk of coagulating blood, says Dr. Jack F. Jacob, an internist, hematologist and medical oncologist with the MemorialCare Cancer Institute in Orange Coast Center in Fountain Valley, California.

For example, you have cancer and you are being treated well. You decide with your family to travel to Hawaii. The combination of cancer and a long journey can increase your risk, Yacoub says.

Symptoms of a blood clot

There may be some symptoms, although sometimes there are no visible symptoms. Symptoms may vary depending on where blood clot is located. They can turn on suddenly and then get worse pretty quickly.

For deep veins the symptoms in the clotting area include:

- Red.

- Skin color.

- Pain not caused by injury.

- News.

- A sense of rage.

For a pulmonary embole, symptoms include:

- Inexplicable.

- An inexplicable cough.

- A faster heart rate.

- chest pain.

- You feel tired or not like yourself.

You must be aware of how serious these symptoms can be. “is important, especially in young, healthy patients who don't think much of themselves,” says Dr. Danielle R. Bayakian. She has seen some young adults with blood clotting on their feet who have assumed that their symptoms were from work at the gym. They were ignored until they faced serious problems and pain.

It is very important to seek medical attention quickly for a suspected blood clot if you have recently taken a long trip, Yacoub says.

Treatment for Bleeding

If you doubt that you or someone with a blood clot will immediately seek treatment. If your symptoms occur on Friday night, do not wait until Monday morning to call your doctor. Some emergency care offices have technology to diagnose a blood clot.

The two main treatments for clotting blood are drugs or the use of special devices, such as strings and katheters, to help open blood vessels, says Hoffman. Bloodrs are the most common type of use of drugs to treat blood clots. The used drugs may be given by mouth or by means of an IV (intravenous). Doctors can perform a surgical procedure called thromektomy to test and remove a clot.

For heart attacks or strokes with regard to a blood clot, you can receive thrombolitic therapy. This includes the use of drugs that can contribute to the deterioration of clotting. Drought failure is necessary to stop the clotting that blocks the flow of blood.

The smaller the clot, the more you can prevent further destruction, the” says Weinberg.

For people with chronic blood clotting problems, there are special stations available to help them, Hoffmann says.

The Prevention of Blood clotting

There are things you can do to reduce your risk of clotting.

1. Know your risk. Talk to your doctor about your numbness. If you are in a higher risk and are willing to do something that will increase your chances of forming blood clotting, for example, taking a long flight, your doctor may recommend using your blood thinler to reduce your risk. A long flight may be eight hours or more, but you still want to stay active on a flight that is three hours or more.

2. Stay physically active and do not smoke. Adding risk of blood clotting is yet another reason to quit smoking, says Bayakian.

3. If your workplace is in an office, get up every two hours to walk or lie down.

4. Control any chronic health conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

5. Take special precautions when you are on a long journey. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol. Clothe socks used around your feet to help prevent widow disorders. Such socks are designed to help flow blood from foot to heart.
