After viral video, this homeless man rejoins his family 10 years later

Joao Coelho Guimaraes, from Brazil, had left his family for over a decade.

This week, he was reunited with his mother and sister after they recognized him from a post on social networks, which were distributed worldwide.

Guimaraes, who was reported dead after he disappeared, has spent the last decade on the road collecting cans to survive.

Recently, an entrepreneur named Alessandro Lobo, who has a man - made shop and barber service, asked the homeless person if he was hungry or wanted something to eat.

Lobo told reporters that Guimaraes rejected the food offer, but asked if his barbers had a razor to cut their beard.

“Ay thought we could offer another kind of help, providing one day for self-care”, Lobo told Universto Online.

Besides cleaning beards, hair and mustaches, business also donated three shirts, a pair of pants, a jacket and several new shoes.

Lobo decided to photograph the change in Guimarae's appearance and post it to social media in an effort to inspire other entrepreneurs to help those in need.

He described Guimaraes as a shy and verbal man, but said he immediately noticed a pleasure in his eyes when he saw the new look and was grateful for the change.

Photos and videos became viral and were seen by Joao's family.

After being met by his family, his mother and sister traveled to meet him on December 17.

Lobo said Guimara's family had earlier assumed he had died because they had not heard from him for more than a decade.

“They looked at the picture and contacted me and, since he doesn't have a phone or a fixed address, tomorrow we're going to go to the neighborhood to try to find”, the businessman said.

It's a holiday period and the goal was to show that we can change someone's life by little. We should do good no matter which person we are doing this good to. We never imagined the outcome would be a united family. ”
