The curfew from 10: 00 p.m. to 05 a.m. will be in effect, too.
In some areas restaurants may be open until 18: 00 p.m., until in some parts of the country only “tackaway” (right with you).
The skiers will be closed by 7 January.
These measures come after Italy registered the highest death toll since the pandemic exploded -- 993 deaths.
“We must eliminate the risk of the third wave that could reach January, and it is not less serious than the first and second waves”, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Ctete has said.
Travel exceptions will have to do with work, medical reasons, or emergency cases.
Amid measures to prevent travel in the middle of domestic regions, people will not be allowed to leave their cities on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
