The year 2020 has produced many touching pictures and powerful messages.
Among the many pictures, a match of two penguins has been chosen as Ocean Photography Awards winner in Oceanographic magazine.
The picture taken in Australia was performed by Tobias Baumgaertner.
St. Kilda Pierre in Melbourne has a colony of about 1,400 penguins “zana”, the penguin's smallest species at an average height of just 33cm, and the entire colony is monitored by volunteers.
A volunteer who approached me and told me that the white penguin was an elderly lady who had lost her partner and, apparently, the penguin next to her had lost his partner”, Baumgaertner wrote in Instagram.
He added:
Since then, penguins regularly meet, comforting each other and staying together for hours under city lights. ”
The photographer spent three evenings with the penguin colony before he was able to take this picture.
With the inability to use light and with little penguins constantly moving, it has been very difficult to take a photo”, he says.
