Sahin told “The Guardian” that by the middle of next year we will return to normal life.
“From the middle of next year. Before that happens, however, a difficult winter awaits us. Even if the distribution of the vaccine starts in December, the situation will not radically change”, Sahin said.
The Turkish-born scientist also explained how vaccines will function.
“Vaxin prevents COVID-19 from accessing our cells. But even if it enters the cells, they eliminate it. We have gone very deep into the immune system to perfect the protection of the” vaccine, he said.
Regarding the criticism of US President Donald Trump, who charged that news of the vaccine was deliberately released after the US elections, Sahin stressed that this issue should not be politicised.
It should never be politicized. It is a matter of integrity, it would not have been ethical to keep information secret. The important thing is that we're dealing with the vaccine and we don't make politics”, Sahin said.
