A statement from the American Pacific Fleet did not provide details of the incident, but said the American ship “exploited the rights and freedoms of navigation”.
Such incidents have been reported by Russia often in recent years, as relations with the United States and the European Union deteriorated following the annexation of the Crime in Ukraine by Moscow in 2014, and its support for separatists in eastern Ukraine.
Most incidents are seen as not threatening.
