Kosovo is today in one of the most difficult and problematic moments behind its independence.
Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selimi, Azem Syla and other senior leaders of the KLA in 1997 (1999) and key independent Kosovo politicians launched a difficult and long legal battle today. They must prove before the Special Court, not only their individual innocence, but also that of the Kosovo War and the military force that belonged to them at the time.
Yeah. This is the only truth, not to be confused with saying that Kosovo's war was fair and clean, but its leaders were dirty. Hashim Thaci and others are not being accused of individual crimes, which are punishable at any time of any circumstances, but of the command line as significant political and military leaders of the KLA KLA. In contrast, they are being charged with a collective and organised war crimes platform, which I am convinced never existed. They are being charged, according to the press, with documents by the Serbian Prosecutor of Milosevic and with witnesses from former police officers responsible for the serious events of 1998 1999 in Kosovo.
They must answer for their fight, defending the basis on which the Republic of Kosovo is established today.
The Kosovo war was not the fight of a oppressed and violated population on ethnic grounds! The Kosovo war was an outstanding example of resistance; it was a global model of how courage and pride can dominate the push even when it seems more powerful. It was not just the Albanian war. It was a moral and ethical struggle that provoked a major world debate. It was a war we faced alongside the US, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and other, democratic countries of the world. We faced it as a moral chaos, and we were right. I have conviction, and I believe that most Albanians join here, that the KLA and Albanians have never had an organised platform for crimes against humanity. Against civilians of any ethnicities. In these 20 years various international courts have found individual responsibilities, but never a collective criminal platform of the KLA. I believe and hope it'll be the same again.
Hashim Thaci is neither being charged as Kosovo president nor as former prime minister, nor as a good politician or as a bad one. Hashim Thaci is charged with choosing on his country's most difficult day to join U CKE and take political responsibility in it. He chose to fight rather than submit. He chose to be a winner, not an eternal loser.
Thaci and the others are being judged, not for what they are today, but for what they were yesterday. They are not being judged to be part of some political formations with their charms and antipathys, but that at the most important moment in their country's history and all Albanians were on the right side of history. They're being punished because on the poor wall of Albanian history, they put it. U n The CK in and Kosovo's war as a rare and proud ornament.
So I believe that the gratitude of Albanians will never be missed, just like the courage to prove it legally, accusing the fight of a people, but wrong again.
