Szunyog has said that the Special Court will judge only individuals and facilitate Kosovo's transitional justice, while co-operation of Kosovo institutions with him shows willingness to face the past.
The Specialised Chambers and the Specialised Prosecutor's Office have been founded by the Assembly of Kosovo as independent judicial institutions with jurisdiction over crimes against humanity, war crimes and other crimes committed under the law of Kosovo during the war. It is important to keep in mind that specialised rooms will not hold ethnic groups, organisations or communities in charge, but only individuals. By doing so, the Specialised Chambers will facilitate transitional justice and enable social progress, moving Kosovo forward on its European path. In this context, co-operation by Kosovo authorities remains crucial to demonstrate Kosovo's commitment to rule of law and its readiness to face its past, Szunyog has said of the Serbian media in Kosovo, “Kosovo Online”.
He said it is important that the Special Court “can do their work independently, without any external intervention”.
