The last thing 33-year-old Khatera has seen in the last three months were three men on a motorcycle who attacked her after she got out of work, a police station in the centre of Ghazni province in Afghanistan, attacking and pointing her eyes out.
When I woke up in the hospital, everything was dark.
I asked the doctors why I can't see anything. They told me my eyes were still hurt. But that moment I realized that my eyes were taken from me”, she said, broadcast the KOHA.
She and local authorities have blamed it on Taliban militants. It is alleged that militants were engaged by her father, since he had repeatedly opposed her employment abroad.
For Khatera, the attack took not only his eyes but also his dream of having an independent career. She joined the police in Ghazni as an officer, a few months ago.
I would like to serve in the police for at least a year. If this were to happen to me in a year, it would be less painful. It happened very soon, I worked and lived my dream for just three months” she told Reuters news agency.
