The new football season in Albania has not begun, as the Professional League, supported by the FSHF, has launched a short-term boycott until the completion of four conditions on the part of the Albanian government.
The 4-term letter is at Prime Minister Edi Rama's table, which in the latest appearance on the issue, indicated that the boycott does not bother him at all and is convinced he has done enough for football in the country.
When it is taking place about a month from the launch of the boycott, the two major football institutions have also officially reacted for the first time, UEFA and FIFA, which have supported the demand of clubs in a letter to FSF Secretary Ilir Shulku.
The two world's most popular sports management bodies say they are in favour of club demands and that they encourage finding an agreement with the Albanian government in order for the ball to start moving again.
Here's the full letter:
Dear Secretary General,
We have been notified of your September 21st 2020 letter concerning the situation of the Royal Catagoria in Albania and the decision to boycott the start of the 2020/21 season.
We understand that this decision, which is backed by the FSHF, comes from the current rejection of the Albanian government to adopt a series of key reforms under the legal framework, affecting professional football clubs in your country.
As you know, FIFA and UEFA generally encourage the creation of an inclusive national regulatory framework that supports football development at all levels. The importance of maintaining a close and constructive working relationship between football organs and government authorities (in line with their rights and respective responsibilities) does not need to be overestimated. This is especially true of the unprecedented challenges football has experienced as a result of the COVID-19 influences. These challenges called for and continue to require an extraordinary level of cooperation.
FIFA and UEFA encourage the Albanian government and the FSHF to find reasonable and adaptable solutions for the demands of Albanian football clubs so that the season can begin without further delay. In these difficult times, the power of football to bring joy, inspiration, and hope to people must be fully sustained.
Finally, we seize this opportunity to give a special assessment of the recent FSF successes in areas very important as child football development, infrastructure, women's football, technical development and good management.
We hope to work closely with you to further support football development in Albania. You can rely on our absolute support for your efforts.
We stand at your full disposal if you need any further help.
