The Russian Army has said it has successfully tested the Tsirkon missile from Russia's northern coast, events which Russian President Vladimir Putin has considered a very large “” for this state.
Speaking through a video conference, Chief General of Staff Valery Gerasimov has said the tests were conducted on the White Sea.
Gerasimov has said that the supersonic missile has flown at speed eight times higher than the speed of sound.
“The device of our military-military and navy forces with the latest weapons systems, completely unmatched, will provide our long-term defence capacities, Putin said, celebrating his 68th birthday.
Putin has repeatedly talked about new weapons, such as Tsirkon, claiming they are not comparable to any other weapon in the world, and cannot be stopped by any system.
Last year, the Russian leader has said the Tsirkon missile could fly on March 9th, as well as pledged to strengthen Russia's military presence in the Arctic.
