The country's capital, Paris, will close all bars -- the measure starting tomorrow and expected to last two weeks.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Jean Castex's office, French media report.
New restrictive measures in Paris come a week after bars are closed in the country's second largest city, Marseilles.
The maximum level of alarm in France comes into force when the infection rate in a locality exceeds 250 per 100,000 people, and at least 30% of intensive care beds are reserved for patients, David-19.
These measures, necessary in the struggle to curb the spread of the virus, will be implemented in Paris and the three departments surrounding it, for a two-week duration”, the prime minister's office explained.
Restaurants in the city will have to set up new sanitation arrangements in order to stay open and university lecture halls should not be more than half packed.
“Work from home must have a priority “now more than ever”, the statement said.
France, from the start of pandemic to today, numbers 619,190 cases of infection and 32,230 victims became one of the most hit countries, not just in Europe.
