According to foreign media, the Costa Smeralda ship is being held near Citivecchia, 35 miles from Rome, after a Chinese woman, 54, began showing symptoms of the virus that killed 170 people and infected another 7,711.

The person, who has not been identified, is said to have contacted doctors on board Wednesday evening, saying she had a fever and was suffering from respiratory problems.

Costa Smeralda, who took the first trip in December, is currently on the last day of a voyage that began in Citivetchia on 23 January.
The couple are believed to have boarded Savona on January 25th after flying from Hong Kong to Milan International Airport on the same day.
