Borrell: Agreement will only happen when there is reconciliation between Kosovo, Serbia

During a media conference after meeting with President Hashim Thaci, the Spanish chief diplomat said it is not his duty to convince the five EU nations that have not yet recognised Kosovo, but part of his diplomatic duty is mediation in the dialogue process.

“We have many people engaged in Kosovo and have managed to create a commitment. We're not far from the process, but we're very locked up in the process, maybe not too loud, but we're very involved. There are five states that do not recognise Kosovo. It's not my job to convince them. I represent as a man responsible for European policy to facilitate negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo, because the problem can be solved in these countries' negotiations, and the agreement will occur only when there is reconciliation between these countries. What we want is to manage to facilitate the” dialogue, Borrell said.

While Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said the US and the EU complement each other in helping Kosovo.

Kosovo citizens are always grateful to the EU and the US and NATO. Kosovo as a new state is a friendly US state and will be strategic partners”, said President Thaci.

Speaking of the dialogue process, President Thaci said the final Kosovo- Serbia is vital to peace in the Western Balkans.
