Spain's acting prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, has announced hundreds of progressive policies meant to make the Podemos party support his efforts to form the government, thus avoiding fourth early elections in as many years.
Sanchezi Socialist Party [ SPOE] won most of the seats in the April general elections, but failed to win the majority at the congress and has refused to form the government with the extreme left grouping.
Instead, Sanchezi has proposed “a progressive joint programme”. These include proposals to reduce excessive rent increases, reduce carbon emissions in villages and cities, and distribute free education at the pre-school level, translate Periscope from The Guardian.
Speaking at a luncheon in Madrid, the prime minister's task leader called for a government formation about a “progressive joint agreement” and an opening to society.
“We have not come where we are today the cause of progressive parties, but the cause of pro-independence and conservative parties,” said Sanchez.
Iglesias of the Podemos party welcomed these policies, but it declared that he and his colleagues should study in detail before making any decisions.
Even if it succeeds in convincing the Podemos party, Sanchez must at least ensure the abstention of the pro-independence Republican party. /Periscope
