Last night Pompeo dined with European Commission President-elect Ursula von der Leyen, who will take office on November 1st. He congratulated her on her choice and posted photographs at Titeter from their meeting.
“Mazi we expect to work together on a series of global issues”, Pompeo said.
The visit comes at a time of diplomatic tension among trans-Atlantic allies, including tariffs on European auto trade and changes in policies for Iran and climate change.
Pompeo will also meet this morning with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, the historic agreement between Americans and Taliban is now considered final.
According to US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, the peace draft agreement to try to end 18 years of war in this country envisions a withdrawal of Americans from five military bases within 135 days if Taliban stick to their commitments.
