A few days after the powerful talk at the United Nations climate summit, Swedish activist Greta Thundberg has been chosen among four who have won an international award, named “alternative Nobel”.
The student from Sweden, who emotionally accused world leaders of betraying her generation, was praised away by the jury of the prize <x)>Rights Livelihood”, for inspiring and raising political requirements for urgent climate measures based on scientific truths.
Among the winners of this prize, along with Swedish activists, were Guo Jianmei, a Chinese lawyer for women's rights, and Aminoati Haidar of the Western Sahara, who is fighting for her country's independence.
The “Wright Livelihood” award is given from 1980 after the Nobel foundation had rejected the proposal for two new awards, environmental work and work in developing countries. In the past, Edward Snowden, Wangari Maathai, and Alan Rusbridger have won this prize.
I am deeply grateful to be one of the winners of this prize, which is a great honor. Of course, I'm not the winner. I am part of a global movement of students, young people and adults who have decided to act in defense of our planet. I share this price with them”, said Greta Thurberg, writes the Guardian”.
